Breast Cance Awareness Bundles

My friend Lindsay Perro at Teachers Pay Teachers has put together some great ELA and Math bundles for a great price of $25 .  All profits will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I am a huge supporter, as I recently had my own bout with breast cancer.  I had to have a mastectomy on my right breast, and was lucky that my tumor was small enough that I didn't have to have chemo or radiation.  This disease is becoming more prominent every day.  Please be generous!  The bundles will be on sale through October 31st.

The 3rd-5th grade ELA bundle has 29 products at a value of $136, and you can get it for a $25 donation.  I donated my most popular item, Charlotte's Web Book Study and Activity Packet.  It is a value of $10 by itself (Remember, you get 28 more products for a donation of $25).  Here a preview of my book study. You can click on the pic below to get a better description of what is included in this packet:

Don't forget to CLICK on the picture below to shop for your bundle today:

Thank you for supporting the fight against breast cancer!

Super Sunday YouTube Educational Video of the Week!

We had a blog hop going on Saturday, so I decided to move my Super Saturday YouTube Educational Video of the Week to Sunday.  This next week in reading we are talking about the "Main Idea" and "Supporting Details." I found this really cute video that explains it with a song from learningupgrade.com. It talks about the main idea and how it fits into a paragraph, so it would be useful in teaching both reading and writing.

I hope you enjoy the video on main idea!

Super Saturday YouTube Video of the Week: Using Book Orders to Teach Author's Purpose

Most of us teachers get tons and tons of book order catalogs, and only end up using one or two.  Mr. Smith, over at Teacher Tipster, made a short video about an idea he came across to put these left over or unused catalogs to good use. He mentions sorting pictures of the covers by books to inform and books to entertain, but you could also add books to persuade and teach the entire PIE concept of author's purpose.  Check out the video ( I just love Mr. Smith. He is a hoot)!

Super Saturday YouTube Educational Video of the Week

This weeks video deals with choosing a "just right" book by using the "IPICK" method adapted by this 2nd grade class from The Sisters: Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.  Here are the words to the chant:
I  = I Choose: I choose, not you, I choose my book.
P = Purpose: Why am I reading?
I  = Interest: Do I like it?
C =Comprehend. Do I understand what I'm reading?
K= Know. Do I know most all the words

You can visit The Sisters website at www.the2sisters.com or www.thedailycafe.com for more information.

 Enjoy the video (I love the Texas accents)!
