Super Saturday YouTube Video of the Week: Non-Fiction

I didn't post last week due to the Trick or Treat Blog Hop that I was participating in, so this week I am posting 2 videos!

We are studying non-fiction in reading, and to kick it off, we made an anchor chart of the characteristics of non-fiction VS fiction.  I found this great video that compares the two, and thought it would be great to show it first, before making the chart.

I also found this great little rap song about non-fiction conventions.  Kids are rapping and it has a funky beat your students can really get into!

I hope you and your students enjoy the videos!

Trick or Treat Blog Hop!

BOO!! =) It's Christi here from Ms. Fultz's Corner and my Halloween trick for you is taking over Patti's blog today! Don't worry though... I also have a treat for you. Mmmm.... treats. {Anyone else have a weakness for candy with all of it hanging around this time of year, or is that just me?} Anyway...

Several bloggers at The Teaching Tribune have joined together for this Trick or Treat Blog Hop. It's really simple, just hop from door to door collecting some fabulous freebies and paid seasonal items.

For those of you who already know me, you know I'm always thinking weeks ahead so my October/ Halloween has been planned forever and I'm already thinking ahead to November/ turkeys. My students have been having some trouble with three digit addition, subtraction, and money. They aren't always getting their numbers lined up neatly, carrying, and/or borrowing accurately. They're also forgetting those pesky dollar signs and decimals.

A fun intervention with extra practice was certainly in order, so I came up with this turkey math craftivity. Just look how cute that little guy is! But, before students can color and assemble the craft, they first have to solve 32 math problems and show their work on the back.  You can purchase my Gobbling Up Number Sentences {A Turkey Math Craftivity} from my TeachersPayTeachers store.

Now you can go "next door" to discover the next trickster. Click on the picture below to take you there. Thanks for hopping along with us!

Breast Cance Awareness Bundles

My friend Lindsay Perro at Teachers Pay Teachers has put together some great ELA and Math bundles for a great price of $25 .  All profits will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I am a huge supporter, as I recently had my own bout with breast cancer.  I had to have a mastectomy on my right breast, and was lucky that my tumor was small enough that I didn't have to have chemo or radiation.  This disease is becoming more prominent every day.  Please be generous!  The bundles will be on sale through October 31st.

The 3rd-5th grade ELA bundle has 29 products at a value of $136, and you can get it for a $25 donation.  I donated my most popular item, Charlotte's Web Book Study and Activity Packet.  It is a value of $10 by itself (Remember, you get 28 more products for a donation of $25).  Here a preview of my book study. You can click on the pic below to get a better description of what is included in this packet:

Don't forget to CLICK on the picture below to shop for your bundle today:

Thank you for supporting the fight against breast cancer!

Super Saturday YouTube Video of the Week: History of Halloween

I thought it would be fun and informative for my students to watch a video about the origins of Halloween, and how the celebration developed over thousands of years.  The following video has some really great pictures, and the narration is easily understood.

In addition to this great video, I am offering a little Halloween FREEBIE just for you!  It is a set of spooky story maps for your kiddos to enjoy.  Visit my TpT store to pick up your very own copy!

I hope you like them, and Happy Halloween!

Super Saturday Educational YouTube Vidoe of the Week : Columbus

Sorry about last week.  I was not able to post a video last week due to plans for the weekend, but now I'm back!  I just love this video about Christopher Columbus. It reminds me of movies we used to watch back when I  was a kid.  It's very entertaining and informative. I hope you and your kiddos like it!
