Breast Cance Awareness Bundles

My friend Lindsay Perro at Teachers Pay Teachers has put together some great ELA and Math bundles for a great price of $25 .  All profits will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I am a huge supporter, as I recently had my own bout with breast cancer.  I had to have a mastectomy on my right breast, and was lucky that my tumor was small enough that I didn't have to have chemo or radiation.  This disease is becoming more prominent every day.  Please be generous!  The bundles will be on sale through October 31st.

The 3rd-5th grade ELA bundle has 29 products at a value of $136, and you can get it for a $25 donation.  I donated my most popular item, Charlotte's Web Book Study and Activity Packet.  It is a value of $10 by itself (Remember, you get 28 more products for a donation of $25).  Here a preview of my book study. You can click on the pic below to get a better description of what is included in this packet:

Thank you for supporting the fight against breast cancer!

Back to School Tip, Blog Hop, Freebie, & Giveaway!

That's right. It's back to school time again!  Where did the summer go?  I just got back from vacation at the coast.....

What am I going to do the first week of school?  Well, one of the most important things to do is to create a classroom community, a sense of "togetherness", and one way to do that is with "getting to know you" activities.

TIP:
One great activity you can do with your kiddos is have them interview someone else in the classroom, and then write an article about them.  One year we had students make people out of construction paper to look like the person they interviewed. We had them paste the written interview on the "body", then we attached a head, arms, and legs.  We even had them use "google eyes" (Kids love google eyes)!

In order to guide your students through the interviewing process, I have created the following freebie just in time for Back to School!

Click the pic above for your very own copy from my TpT store!

This freebie includes suggested interview questions, a paper to write the questions on , and a "final copy" paper that they can write their article on. Students can use the final copy page instead of notebook paper to glue on the body of the person they are writing the paper about.

And now for the BLOG HOP!!!!

My friend, Laurah The ESOL Odyssey is hosting this blog hop, and I have donated an item that usually corresponds with what is taught in the first month in math: Place Value!!! It's one of my top sellers and it is in a cute safari theme.

You can check it out more in detail at my TpT store by clicking on the pic above.

Blog Hop and Giveaway runs August 12th-17th
.

Grand Prize ($122 value)

Super Saturday YouTube Educational Video of the Week: Life as an Inuit

We will be studying the Polar Regions until the end of school.  I found this cool video about the Inuit culture that I would like to show my kiddos. We are reading Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George, and I think that this video will help them build some schema, or background knowledge for them to better understand the book.  Check it out!

Super Saturday YouTube Educational Video of the Week: The Emporer Penguin

This is one of my favorite times of the year!  We are done with state testing and we begin our study of habitats in science.  Every year, our entire 3rd grade studies a specific habitat.  As a class, we study the climate, animals, plants, and people of the chosen habitat. Next, each 3rd grade class studies one particular animal and creates a life size representation to hang on our habitat mural in the hall. Then, each student chooses and animal, does a report, and creates a life size representation to hang on our mural in the hall. We rotate between the following habitats:

    Madagascar Rain Forest
    Australian Desert
    Kelp Forest
    Polar Regions: Arctic and Antarctic

Here are a few pics for the Kelp Forest, Australia, and Madagascar:

    Kelp Forest

Kelp Forest (Food Chain for Sea Lion)

     Australian Desert

    Australian Desert

    Australian Art (Winged Lizard)
Students did an art piece on the animal they were researching.

    Australian Art (Python)

     Madagascar Rain Forest

     Madagascar Rain Forest

This year we are doing the Polar Regions, and my class will be researching and making the Emperor Penguin.  I found this great National Geographic video on YouTube that describes the Emperor Penguin and the harsh habitat that it lives in.  It also talks about global warming, and the effects of the changing temperatures on the Antarctic.  It's almost an hour long, so have your kiddos sit back and relax.  Maybe throw in some popcorn!
