This week, in honor of Christopher Columbus, I am posting an ACH Discovery Channel video you can show your students prior to completing activities you may have planned for Columbus Day.  My kids really enjoy watching videos, and this one is a cartoon about Christopher Columbus' voyage.

Animal Cell Model

Here is a pic of my daughter's model of an animal cell that she made for her 7th grade Science class.  She created it all by herself!  She used a plexiglass sign holder, a throwaway Tupperware bowl, a bouncy ball cut in half, yarn, and colored foam and hot glued everything. Her directions said she could not use a styrofoam ball, which seems to be the most popular method.  I would give her an A!

Fried Worms Anyone?

Recently I completed my newest book study and activity packet on How to Eat Fried Worms.  While working on this books study, I learned some very interesting things.  .

When creating a book study, I always like to dedicate a page to information about the author. While researching the author of How to Eat Fried Worms, I found out that he was the son of the great American artist, Norman Rockwell.  Even though their names were the same, it never dawned on me that they were related. I also found out, that he tried to publish poems prior to this book, but they didn't do very well. In fact, his publisher refused to publish his second book of poems.  It wasn't until Rockwell wrote this novel about a boy taking on a dare to eat worms, that he became a success. 

It always seems hard to find books that interest boys, and I feel that this book fits the bill.  It would be great as a class read-aloud, or in a literature circle group.  Head on over to my TpT or Teachers NB store and check out my How to Eat Fried Worms Book Study and Activity Pack!
