Super Saturday YouTube Educational Video of the Week: Metric Stystem

This week in math, we will be studying metric measurements of length. I found this great video on the metric system. It explains how the U.S. is the only country that has not converted to the metric system, and it talks about standard measurement and metric measurement. I plan on showing it to my kiddos on Monday.  Check it out and see what you think!

I know it is supposed to be Super Saturday YouTube Educational Video of the Week, but this has been a rough week, so it is a day late. Since it is a holiday weekend for most of us, we won't be gong back to school until Tuesday anyways. This next week our 3rd graders will be studying natural resources. I found this video bu InteractiuSchool, that gives lots of examples and even talks about recycling. I think it will be great to show my kiddos! See what you think....

This week in math, we are relating fractions to time.  We are studying quarter to, quarter after, and half past.  I found this video which explains these three concepts as well as o'clock.  The video is called Right on Time and is made by Melissa Trezise.  Check it out!

Super Saturday YouTube Video of the Week: Using Book Orders to Teach Author's Purpose

Most of us teachers get tons and tons of book order catalogs, and only end up using one or two.  Mr. Smith, over at Teacher Tipster, made a short video about an idea he came across to put these left over or unused catalogs to good use. He mentions sorting pictures of the covers by books to inform and books to entertain, but you could also add books to persuade and teach the entire PIE concept of author's purpose.  Check out the video ( I just love Mr. Smith. He is a hoot)!
